Jensen Huang Says The $700 Billion AI Buildout Has 'Just Begun,' Explains Why 'Trillions…Still Need To Be Built'

NVIDIA Corp. (NASDAQ:NVDA) CEO Jensen Huang said the AI infrastructure buildout, currently costing a few hundred billion dollars, could eventually reach trillions, emphasizing that the effort is still in its early stages.

"We have only just begun this buildout," wrote Huang in a blog post titled AI Is A 5-Layer Cake on Tuesday. "We are a few hundred billion dollars into it. Trillions of dollars of infrastructure still need to be built."

Applications, Models, Infrastructure, Chips, and Energy are the five layers of AI infrastructure, as per Huang.

Explaining the phenomenon, Huang said, AI factories, redesigned chips, and energy optimization are driving a large-scale AI buildout, as applications become practical at scale and each layer amplifies the others. “This is why the buildout is so large.”
