Tim Cook Says Apple Employment 'Most Significant Discovery': 5 Things You Might Not Know About Departing CEO

Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) announced on Monday that its longtime CEO, Tim Cook, will step down from the key role and transition to the title of executive chairman on Sept. 1, 2026. Cook will be succeeded by John Ternus.

In August 2011, Cook was named the CEO of Apple, taking over the role from co-founder Steve Jobs, who resigned shortly before his death.

Through the years, Cook has guided Apple to become one of the biggest companies in the world, with a market capitalization of nearly $4 trillion.

Here are five things you might now know about Tim Cook.

1. Education: Cook graduated in 1982 with a bachelor's degree in industrial engineering from Auburn University. After Auburn, Cook went on to attend Duke University. While at Duke, Cook earned an MBA from the Fuqua School of Business in 1988. Cook was in the top 10% of his business school class, earning the title of Fuqua Scholar.

Cook returned to Auburn in 2010 to be the graduation commencement speaker.
